One Italia and ScientiaMobile Sign Agreement for Adoption of Commercial Handset Detection Framework
Leading Italian provider of Digital Marketing Services Embraces Commercial WURFL
Reston, Virginia / Rome, Italy
November 3, 2011
One Italia, an Italian Multinational, and ScientiaMobile, Inc., a US company offering the popular open-source WURFL framework commercially, have today announced an agreement between the two organizations. According to the agreement, OneItalia will become a commercial adopter of ScientiaMobile products and services, and rely on the WURFL APIs and Device Description Repository to provide mobile-specific user experience to consumers accessing its platform. As part of the deal, OneItalia will be able to offer mobile-optimised websites and services.
“OneItalia offers services and multimedia content for web and mobile portals, often in cooperation with large operators all over the world. In such contexts, device detection is a key component in the overall system architecture. OneItalia could only go for solutions that are reliable both in terms of performance and accuracy of the information provided. This was the driver behind the adoption of WURFL. WURFL is obviously the de-facto standard in device recognition and all mobile developers know why. The arrival of ScientiaMobile has removed the only downside to WURFL when compared to competing solutions: the lack of a company behind it. Embracing ScientiaMobile was the obvious next step for us.” – said Valentino Accattoli, OneItalia’s Head of Software Development.
“Open-Source is immensely valuable, but, let’s face it, pure Open-Source can only be relied on to a point when no commercial support is available. This deal gives OneItalia an edge over other providers of similar services.” – said Paolo Perrucci, OneItalia’s CTO.
Luca Passani, ScientiaMobile CTO, stated: “The adoption of WURFL by OneItalia, including the tools the ScientiaMobile reserves for paying licensees, will enable the company to extend the functionality and the platform service levels offered to OneItalia customers.”
