Leading Company in Mobile Development Tools Embraces Commercial WURFL
Herndon, Virginia / Oslo, Norway (PRWEB) September 01, 2011
Mobiletech AS, a leading international vendor of tools for the creation of content and services on the mobile web, and ScientiaMobile, Inc., a US company offering the popular open-source WURFL framework commercially, have today announced an agreement between the two organizations. According to the agreement, Mobiletech will become a major adopter of ScientiaMobile products and services. In addition, Mobiletech will become a commercial partner of ScientiaMobile, able to offer fully-licensed WURFL-based solutions to all its customers.
“As long-time adopters of WURFL, we were very excited when the WURFL team created a commercial entity to support the need of mobile companies,” said Christian Erichsen, Mobiletech CEO. “Within the mobile industry, it is no secret that the vast majority of companies rely on WURFL for detecting the always increasing number of mobile devices on the market. WURFL has always been good, but the fact that there was no commercial support behind WURFL, represented a liability for Mobiletech and, in fact, for everyone else. The advent of ScientiaMobile has now fixed this. The initiative is great news for the whole mobile industry. For this reason, we are pleased to fully embrace ScientiaMobile and its products. From today, our tools and solutions will ship with fully-licensed versions of WURFL software and data. This is an advantage that our competition is unable to offer.”
“ScientiaMobile will bring professional support to WURFL and enable Mobiletech to deliver a higher quality of service to its customers. Also, we can now focus on delivering products higher up in the value chain,” commented Fredrik Harloff, Mobiletech CTO.
“Open-Source is a good thing, but, an ongoing challenge has been that very few of those who benefited from WURFL contributed back. Unfortunately, most took liberally from WURFL, but kept improvements to themselves for their own commercial advantage. For this reason, we fully support ScientiaMobile’s move towards stricter FOSS licenses in return for a better WURFL. Not everyone will realize this immediately, but this is one of the best things that happened for mobile developers in quite some time,” commented Jon Arne Sæterås, VP of Products, Mobiletech.
Krishna Guda, ScientiaMobile CEO, stated: “Mobiletech has been a key contributor to the WURFL project for many years before ScientiaMobile was founded. This has built trust between our organizations and the sharing of a common vision. By turning WURFL into a commercial reality, ScientiaMobile can benefit the entire mobile ecosystem by delivering great services and tools at competitive pricing. By embracing our products, Mobiletech will be first in line among the beneficiaries of this new order.”
