Comparing the first 39 days after the launch of the flagship smartphones of Apple and Samsung, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have a slightly faster penetration rate vs. Samsung 8 and 8+. After 39 days, the iPhone 8 Plus had 0.64% and the iPhone 8 had 0.42% of global smartphone usage. Compare this to the first 39 days of the Samsung launch, with the S8 generating 0.40% and the S8+ holding 0.38% of smartphone usage.

It’s no secret that Samsung uses both its own Exynos chipset as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. Our most recent MOVR (Mobile Overview Report) 2017 Q2, found various versions of the Exynos chipsets account for 73%, whereas Snapdragon accounts for 24%.

Compared to the U.S., Mexico has a higher percentage of smartphone users than the U.S. by two percent. However, when we compared the amount of tablet usage, Mexico was slightly behind the U.S. by two percent. Overall, Mexico and the U.S. have a very similar form factor with almost no feature phone usage.

Update on November 3rd: We now see that users are heeding the recall. Usage for Samsung Note 7 has dropped consistently over the last 3 weeks. The usage has dropped to 33% of its peak level.
