What is an Image CDN?

Images are the new norm in online content, and maximizing the speed of images served to customers or webviewers is a recent business challenge that many e-commerce sites and advertising platforms attempt to solve a number of different ways. However, unless images are being served on a Content Delivery Network (CDN), the images served on a website will most likely load too slowly. This happens for many reasons. In this blog we will explain the critical role an image CDN provides to websites, how it’s different than an image management platform or regular CDN, and much more. Read More…

53% of Mobile Site Visitors Abandon if it Takes More Than 3 Seconds to Load Page

According to a recent Google study, more than half of mobile visitors will leave if the website takes longer than three seconds to load. And one in two mobile visitors expect their page to load in less than two seconds. This is especially important to the e-commerce and advertising community who rely on image-heavy content to drive many of their conversions and sales. In fact, mobile sites which load in only five seconds earned almost twice as much mobile revenue compared to ads which had site load in 19 seconds.

ScientiaMobile Achieves Recognition as CIOReview’s Top 20 Most Promising Content Delivery Network (CDN) Solution Providers of 2016

Powering the CDN Market with Device Intelligence and Image Optimization

RESTON, Va. December 21, 2016 — CIOReview selected ScientiaMobile’s ImageEngine CDN as one of the 20 Most Promising CDN Solution Providers for 2016. In an interview, Steve Kamerman, ScientiaMobile’s COO & Co-Founder, identified emerging trends in value-added services for CDNs and explained how ImageEngine delivers properly-sized images to a growing mobile audience.

ImageEngine Benefits:

  • -Reduces image payload and accelerates page load time by 60%, resulting in improved web performance.
  • -Resizes images based on device capabilities and optimal file compression formats.
  • -Offers white-label image and mobile optimization services to CDNs looking to add value added services.

“Image optimization simultaneously reduces image payload and significantly improves page-load speed, all the while leveraging the latest technology like HTTP/2, Client Hints, and Resource Hints,” said Kamerman.

ImageEngine is unique among CDNs and image resizing services because it proactively identifies devices by using WURFL device detection. ScientiaMobile’s WURFL device detection solution works by probing incoming HTTP requests and matching them to more than 50,000 device profiles. Businesses can use this real-time device information (e.g. model, OS, price, screen size, browser) to dynamically optimize their offerings, web experiences, and reduce image payload. ScientiaMobile has invested substantial engineering resources to enhance accuracy and speed to support web leaders and CDNs like Verizon EdgeCast.

“As we address the needs of various industry verticals, we may well intersect with the CDN space. We’ve been doing mobile optimization since 2001 and are growing at a great pace. We are committed to applying our experience and industry leadership to improving the CDN space. Our goal is to help combat the commoditization that is occurring among CDNs,” added Kamerman.
